Volunteering is essential to the functioning and success of the Hive Free Lunch Program. We depend on volunteers’ helping hands to serve and clean up after lunch every day.
If you are on a tight schedule, feel free to pop into the kitchen whenever you have time between 9:30 and 2:30, even just fifteen minutes of doing dishes, sweeping, drying dishes or peeling carrots goes a long way to lighten the workload for everyone.
On the other hand, if you are looking for kitchen experience or you just love this program and are interested in doing weekly volunteer shifts, please contact us! Volunteers who are able to commit to doing specific weekly shifts, allow us to know if we need extra help in the kitchen, and they allow us to be able to count on people to show up to help out!
Volunteers who commit to a two – three hour shifts once a week are eligible to put this onto their co-curricular record through the Dean of Students Office.
We are also happy to provide references if you volunteer regularly and would like to use this experience on your CV, or elsewhere.
Don’t forget, volunteers develop kitchen skills, skip the lunch line, get free coffee or tea, endless gratitude, and make friends! If you hate waiting in line and would rather cut up veggies for thirty minutes and get your food right away, come talk to us! We also have semesterly volunteer parties to appreciate the hard work volunteers do for us.
We need everyone’s help to keep the Free Lunch Program running!
